Crochet HookI/9 or 5.5 mm hook
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Materials:
- RED HEART® “Super Saver®”: 2 skeins each of 376 Burgundy A, 385 Royal B and 311 White C.
- Crochet Hook: 5.5 mm [US I-9]
- Yarn Needle
Size: Throw is 44” x 58”
Gauge: Motif = 6¾’’ square. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
NOTE: Following Color Sequence Chart for color placement, make 8 each Motifs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Abbreviations: A, B, C= color A, B, C; ch= chain; dc= double crochet; mm = millimeters; sc= single crochet; st(s)= stitch(es); [ ]= work directions in brackets the number of times specified; *or** = repeat whatever follows the * or ** as indicated.
THROW:
Motif
With round 1 color, ch 3 and join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1 (right side): Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 2), [dc, ch 2] 7 times in ring; join with slip st in 2nd ch of beginning ch-4—8 ch-2 spaces. Fasten off.
Round 2: With right side facing, join C with a slip st in any ch-2 space, ch 2, dc in same space, *ch 1, 2 dc in next ch-2 space, ch 1, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space; repeat from * twice, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch-2 space, ch 1, 2 dc in beginning corner space, ch 2; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-2. Fasten off.
Round 3:With right side facing, join next color in sequence with a slip st in ch-2 corner space opposite last joining, ch2, dc in same space, *[ch 1, 2 dc in next ch-1 space] twice, ch 1**, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next corner space; repeat from* around, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in beginning ch-2 corner space, ch 2; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-2. Fasten off.
Round 4: With right side facing, join C with a slip st in any ch-2 space, ch 2, dc in same space, ch 1, *[2 dc in nex tch-1 space, ch 1] across to next corner ch-2 space**, (2dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next corner space, ch 1; repeat from *around, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in beginning ch-2 corner space, ch 2; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-2. Fasten off.
Round 5: With right side facing, join next color in sequence in any ch-2 corner space, repeat round 4.
Round 6: With right side facing, join C in any ch-2 corner space opposite last joining, ch 2, dc in same space, ch1, *[2 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1] across to next corner ch-2 space**, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next corner space, ch1; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in beginning ch-2 corner space, ch 2; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-2. Fasten off leaving an 18” sewing length.
Weave in ends. With yarn needle and C, sew motifs together following assembly diagram for placement.
Border
Round 1: With right side facing, join B with a slip st in any ch-2 corner space, ch 2, dc in same space, *ch 1, [2 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1] across to next corner**, (2 dc, ch 3,2 dc) in ch-2 corner space; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in beginning corner space, dc in top of beginning ch-2 instead of last ch-2 space.
Round 2: Ch 2, dc in beginning space, *ch 1, [2 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1] across to next corner**, (2 dc, ch 3, 2dc) in ch-2 corner space; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in beginning corner space, ch 2; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-2. Fasten off.
Round 3: With right side facing, join C with a slip st in any ch-2 corner space, ch 1, sc in same space, *[sc in next ch-1 space, ch 2] across to next corner**, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-2 corner space, ch 2; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, sc in beginning ch-3 space, ch 2; join with a slip st in beginning sc. Fasten off.
Round 4: With right side facing, join A with a slip st in any ch-3 corner space, ch 1, sc in same space, *[sc in nextch-2 space, ch 3] across to next corner**, (sc, ch 4, sc) inch-3 corner space, ch 3; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, sc in beginning corner space, ch 3; join with a slip st in beginning sc. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Weave in ends.

This patriotic Americ ghan is brighter and has more defined lines. I like the brighter shades too. It's the one that I like to place on top of my living room sofa on July 4th. Cheers!
