Winter Wonderland Afghan and Pillow
What could be better than stepping in from the cold to a wonderfully warm Christmas crochet blanket? The Winter Wonderland Afghan and Pillow are here to keep you cozy during the colder months! This crochet blanket pattern is a pop of bright color during a rather dreary season. The beautiful snowflake motifs looks exactly like the real thing. With a variety of different crochet stitches, including the half double crochet and the treble crochet stitch, this blanket is anything but boring!
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Materials:
- Patons ® Decor ™ (3.5 oz/100 g; 208 yds/190 m) BLANKET: Main Color (MC) - Coral (87430) 10 balls, Contrast A - Winter White (87614) 6 balls; PILLOW: Main Color (MC) - Frond (87521), or Oceanside (87103) 2 balls, Contrast A - Winter White (87614) 2 balls
- Crochet hook: Size U.S. H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
- 14" [35.5 cm] square pillow form
Size: Blanket: Approx 48 x 55" [122 x 139.5 cm]; Pillow: Approx 14" [35.5 cm] square (excluding edging)
Gauge: One Motif = 7" [18 cm] square. 13 sc and 14 rows = 4" [10 cm]

Motif
With A, ch 6. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 4 (counts as tr). 1 tr in ring. Ch 2. *(Yoh) twice and draw up a loop in ring. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Rep from * once more. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – tr2tog made. (Ch 2. Tr2tog) 10 times. Ch 2. Join with sl st to top of ch 4.
2nd rnd: Sl st in next ch-2 sp. Ch 3. Dc2tog in same sp – counts as cluster. Ch 2. *Join MC. Ch 1. Cluster in next ch-2 sp. Join A. Ch 3. Cluster in next ch-2 sp. Ch 2. Rep from * 4 times more. Join MC. Ch 1. Cluster in last ch-2 sp. Join A. Ch 3. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. Break MC.
3rd rnd: Ch 5 (counts as hdc and ch 3). Skip next ch-3 sp. *(Cluster. Ch 2. Cluster. Ch 4. Cluster. Ch 2. Cluster) all in next ch-3 sp for corner. Ch 3.** Miss next ch-3 sp. 1 hdc in top of next cluster. Ch 3. Skip next ch-3 sp. Rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once. Join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch 5. Break A.

BLANKET
Make 42 Motifs. With MC, join into 6 Strips, each 7 Motifs long. Join Strips tog.
Edging:
1st rnd: (RS). Join MC with sl st in top right corner ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 3 sc in same sp. Work 24 sc across top of each Motif along top edge, 3 sc in corner, 24 sc across side of each Motif down side edge, 3 sc in corner, 24 sc across bottom of each Motif along lower edge, 3 sc in corner and 24 sc across side of each Motif up side edge. Join A with sl st to first sc. 636 sc.
2nd rnd: With A, sl st in next corner sc. Ch 1. **(1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in corner sc. *Ch 1. Skip next sc. 1 dc in next sc.* Rep from * to * to next corner sc. Rep from ** 3 times more. Join with sl st to first sc.

Make 8 Motifs. Join 4 Motifs tog for Front and Back.
Edging:
1st rnd: Place WS of Front and Back tog. Join MC with sl st through both thicknesses in any corner ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 3 sc in same sp. (Work 50 sc evenly across side to next corner. 3 sc in next corner) 3 times. Insert pillow form. Work 50 sc across rem side. Join A with sl st to first sc.

Love the Winter Wonderland afghan for its color which deviates from the usual red Christmas color. The choice of orange here signifies freedom and independence of mind in choosing what truly makes us happy and joyful this Christmas season. Colors don't matter but the meaning of the celebration does. Cheers!
