Ring around the rosie, pockets full of posies! A blooming ripple crochet pattern in pretty Easter egg colors makes this Pockets Full of Posies Throw perfect for the spring months. In this blanket, the classic ripple crochet pattern is given a fun twist with tiny budding flowers. The swooping arcs make this throw look like a deliciously decorated cake. Decadent and sweet, this afghan almost looks good enough to eat!
Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Materials:
- RED HEART® Super Saver®: 2 skeins each of 320 Cornmeal A and 624 Tea Leaf B; 1 skein each of 706 Perfect Pink C, 718 Shocking Pink D, and 254 Pumpkin D.
- Crochet hook: 5.0mm [US H-8] or size needed for gauge
- Yarn needle
Size: Throw Measures: 48” (122 cm) wide x 53” (134.5 cm)
Gauge: 1 pattern repeat, 18 sts = 6” (15 cm); 6 rows = 4¼” (11 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Abbreviations: A , B , C , D , E = color A, B, C, D, E; ch = chain; dc = double crochet; sc = single crochet; st(s) = stitch(es); ( ) = work directions in parentheses into same st; [ ] = work directions in brackets the number of times specified; * = repeat whatever follows the * as indicated.
Special Abbreviations: Back post double crochet (BPdc): Yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back again around the post of next st, yarn over, draw yarn through, [yarn over, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook] twice. Front post double crochet (FPdc): Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of next st, yarn over, draw yarn through, [yarn over, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook] twice.
Color Sequence: Work in the following color sequence: 2 rows each of * A , B , C , A , B , D , A , B , E ; repeat from * throughout, ending with 2 rows A.
THROW:
With A , ch 147.
Row 1 (right side): Dc in 4th ch from hook, *dc in each of next 6 ch, skip next ch, dc in each of next 2 ch, skip next ch, dc in each of next 6 ch**, 2 dc in each of next 2 ch; repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in last ch, turn—8 pattern repeats.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc, here and throughout), dc in first st, *dc in each of next 6 dc, skip next dc, BPdc around each of next 2 dc, skip next dc, dc in each of next 6 dc**, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in last dc, turn. Fasten off.
Row 3: With right side facing, join B with a slip st in first st, ch 3, dc in first st, *dc in each of next 6 dc, skip next dc, FPdc around each of next 2 dc, skip next dc, dc in each of next 6 dc**, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in last st, turn.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: With right side facing, join C with a slip st in first st, ch 3, dc in first st, *dc in each of next 6 dc, skip next dc, FPdc around each of next 2 dc, ch 1 (slip st, [ch 5, slip st] 3 times) around last FPdc worked, ch 5, (slip st, [ch 5, slip st] 3 times) around previously worked FPdc (flower completed), skip next dc, dc in each of next 6 dc**, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in last st, turn.
