Learn how to crochet these Shell Stitch Variation Squares, and you'll be on your way to making a whole afghan. In addition to the shell stitch, there are also v stitches and 3 dc group stitches as well. You have the option of picking one out of five squares or you can try them all. They come with a photo tutorial, so you really can't mess these squares up. There is a pattern for a crochet blanket called the Shell Stitch Variation Afghan if you are inclined to make a full afghan out of these squares.

Easy

Crochet Hook: H/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight: (4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Square #1

Square Measures: 6” x 6”

Materials:

  • 4 ply yarn
  • Crochet Hook:  5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

Special Stitch:   Shell – (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc)

Row 1 (RS): Ch 25, shell in 5th ch from hook, skip 2 chs, [dc in next ch, skip 2 chs, Shell in next ch, skip 2 chs] across, dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.

Row 2: [Shell in ch 1 space of Shell, dc in single dc,] across ending dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.

Rows  3 - 7: Repeat Row 2.

Row 8: Repeat Row 2 and fasten off.

 

Square #2

Square Measures: 6” x 6”

Materials:

  • 4 ply yarn
  • Crochet Hook:  5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

Special Stitch: V Stitch (V St) – (dc, ch 1, dc)

Row 1 (RS): Ch 25, 3 dc in 5th ch from hook, skip 2 chs, [3 dc in next ch, skip 2 chs] across, dc in last ch, ch 3 and turn.  
Row 2: V St in center dc of each 3 dc across, dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.  
Row 3:  3 dc in each ch 1 space of V St across, dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
Row 4 – 7: Repeat Rows 2 and 3.
Row 8: Repeat Row 2 and fasten off.
