Materials:

  • Contrast A Mocha (04013) - 3 balls; Contrast B Foliage (04246) - 3 balls; Contrast C Teal (04203) - 2 balls; Contrast D Snow (04005) - 2 balls; Contrast E Goldenrod (04609) - 2 balls
  • Hook: Size 5 mm (U.S. H/8) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Size: Approx 44" [112 cm] square.

Gauge: 13 dc and 7 rows = 4" [10 cm].

 

Instructions:

Note: Ch 3 counts as dc at beg of rows. To change color, work to last loops on hook of previous color. Yoh with new color and proceed.

Basic Motif (make 12 with D as Color 1; make 12 with E as Color 1)
With Color 1, ch 23. With B, ch 25.

1st row: (RS). With B, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each of next 18 ch. Dc3tog over next 3 ch, changing to Color 1 with last yoh. With Color 1, dc3tog over next 3 ch. 1 dc in each of next 20 ch. Turn.

2nd row: With Color 1, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 17 dc. Dc3tog, changing to B with last yoh. With B, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 18 dc. Turn.

3rd row: With B, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 15 dc. Dc3tog, changing to Color 1 with last yoh. With Color 1, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 16 dc.Turn.

4th row: With Color 1, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 13 dc. Dc3tog, changing to B with last yoh. With B, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 14 dc. Turn.

5th row: With B, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 11 dc. Dc3tog, changing to Color 1 with last yoh. With Color 1, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 12 dc. Turn.

6th row: With Color 1, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 9 dc. Dc3tog, changing to B with last yoh. With B, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 10 dc. Turn.

7th row: With B, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 7 dc. Dc3tog, changing to Color 1 with last yoh. With Color 1, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 8 dc. Turn.

8th row: With Color 1, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 5 dc. Dc3tog, changing to B with last yoh. With B, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 6 dc. Turn.

9th row: With B, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Dc3tog, changing to Color 1 with last yoh. With Color 1, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 4 dc. Turn.

Motif A with Stripe (make 16)
With C, ch 23. With A, ch 25.

1st row: (RS). With A, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each of next 18 ch. Dc3tog over next 3 ch, changing to C with last yoh. With C, dc3tog over next 3 ch. 1 dc in each of next 20 ch. Turn.

3rd row: With A, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 15 dc. Dc3tog, changing to C with last yoh. With C, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 16 dc. Turn. Leave A and C yarns attached. Do not turn.

4th row: (RS). Join B with sl st in top of ch 3 at beg of last row. Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 13 dc. (Dc3tog) twice. 1 dc in each of last 14 dc. Turn. Break B.

5th row: (WS).With C, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 11 dc. Dc3tog, changing to A with last yoh. With A, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 12 dc. Turn.

6th row: With A, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 9 dc. Dc3tog, changing to C with last yoh. With C, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 10 dc. Turn.

7th row: With C, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 7 dc. Dc3tog, changing to A with last yoh. With A, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 8 dc. Turn.

8th row: With A, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 5 dc. Dc3tog, changing to C with last yoh. With C, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 6 dc. Turn.

9th row: With C, ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Dc3tog, changing to A with last yoh. With A, dc3tog. 1 dc in each of last 4 dc. Turn.

Motif B with Stripe (make 9)
Work as for Motif A with Stripe substituting D for B in 4th row.

 

FINISHING
Sew Motifs tog.

 

Edging
1st rnd:(RS). Join A with sl st in any corner of Blanket. Ch 1. 3 scin same sp as last sl st. Work sc evenly around outer edge, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to first sc.

2nd rnd: Ch 1.Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual,work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

These are the type of patterns I love to find. A challenge but not too much of a challenge. Then when done, you can feel really accomplished because you have created a really nice piece of work that anyone would be proud to own.

When I see this, I think art. This could easily be hung on a wall. Thanks for the free pattern.

Wow was then first word I uttered when I saw the afghan. It's like an Indian design. I would like to do this. Thanks for having the pattern right on the same page, that makes it easier for us crocheters.

The pattern says to sew the motifs together using the diagram, but there is no diagram!
