This Cozy Hooded Blanket is made for impromptu games of peekaboo and warming your little one's head and body. The free crochet afghan directions are easy to follow and you'll love the end result. What's cuter than a baby bundled up in a pretty pastel blanket, especially when you or someone you love made it with care? This adorable and soft crocheted baby blanket is so sweet that you will want to make one for every little boy or girl who comes into your life.

Easy

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • RED HEART “ Moon & Stars: 8 Balls 3240 Buttercream
  • Crochet Hook 5mm [US H-8].
  • Yarn needle.

Instructions:

BLANKET

Ch 104.

Row 1 (Right Side): Dc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2 dc), dc in each ch across, turn – 102 dc.

Row 2: Ch 2, Fpdc around each of next 2 dc, Bpdc around next dc, *Fpdc around each of next 3 dc, Bpdc around next dc; repeat from * to last 3 sts, Fpdc around each of next 2 dc, dc in top of turning ch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in next 2 Fpdc, *Fpdc around next Bpdc, dc in next 3 sts; repeat from * to last 3 sts; Fpdc around next Bpdc, dc in next 2 sts, dc in top of turning ch, turn.

Row 4: Ch 2, Fpdc around each of next 2 dc, Bpdc around next Fpdc, *Fpdc around each of next 3 dc, Bpdc around next Fpdc; repeat from * to last 3 sts, Fpdc around each of next 2 sts, dc in top of turning ch, turn.

Repeat Row 3 and 4 until 60 rows have been worked.

Fasten off.

HOOD

Ch 32.

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2 dc), dc in each ch across, turn – 30 dc.

Rows 2-3: Ch 2, *Fpdc around next dc, Bpdc around next dc; repeat from * across, dc in top of turning ch, turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each dc, sc in top of turning ch, turn – 30 sc.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc) across, turn – 24 sc.

Rows 7-9: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 10: Ch 1, (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc) across, turn – 18 sc.

Rows 11-13: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 14: Ch 1, (sc in next sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc) across, turn – 12 sc.

Rows 15-17: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 18: Ch 1, (sc2tog over next 2 sc) across, turn – 6 sc.

Row 19: Ch 1, (sc2tog over next 2 sc) across – 3 sc.
 

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew Hood in place on one corner of Blanket.

Bear Ear (make 2)

Ch 2.

Round 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker for beginning of round.

Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Round 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around – 18 sc.

Rounds 4-6: Sc in each sc around.

Round 7: (Sc2tog) around – 9 sc.
 

Fasten off.

Notes:

Blanket is 30” x 30”.

GAUGE: 13½ sts = 4”; 8 rows = 4” in pattern stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Special Abbreviations: sc2tog (sc dec): Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Here are the written instructions for a front post double crochet stitch Yarn over. Insert your hook front-to-back through your work, so that the post you want to crochet around is in front of your hook. Yarn over again and pull through.

yes, I would make this blanket. It is nice to have a hat when you are taking an infant out and about. You would not have to worry as much about them lossing the hat or constantly taking it off.

Yes I would make this blanket. I have crocheted several blankets for my grandbabies, they are the only ones my daughter lets them use because I use loose stiches so they are breathable. Her Dr, told her these are ok to have in the crib because the little ones can still breath even if they wrap themselves up in it.
