Is this not also the pixel crochet? Perhaps the actual square created is different for the project but it has to be almost the same crochet technique. Your imagination is the only thing stopping you from creating something totally unique. When I googled pixel crochet, I was truly inspired.

Just as the rest of this beautiful world we live in, the world of crochet evolves along with our vocabulary. ) Pixel crochet of course could not have existed before pixels, themselves, were invented! I really like the concept of this afghan. The object is to create a lot of different little squares and then join them. The part that I would dread the most, the joining. I love this design though. The applied edging really makes the finished project.
