Fall Zig Zag Afghan Pattern

  • Bernat® Satin (100 g/3.5 oz; 149 m/163 yds) Contrast A: Buff (04018) - 4 balls; Contrast B: Mocha (04013) - 3 balls; Contrast C: Cameo (04435) - 1 ball; Contrast D: Rouge (04531) - 3 balls; Contrast E: Silk (04007) - 2 balls
  • Crochet hook: Size 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Size: Approx 48 x 53 ins [122 x 134.5 cm]

Gauge/Tension: 12 sc and 13 rows = 4 ins [10 cm]

Abbreviations: Approx = Approximately, Beg = Beginning., Ch = Chain(s), Cont = Continue(ity), Pat = Pattern, Rep = Repeat, RS = Right side, Sc = Single crochet, Sl st = Slip stitch

Stripe Pattern:
With A, work 6 rows.
With E, work 1 row.
With B, work 6 rows.
With E, work 1 row.
With A, work 6 rows.
With D, work 2 rows.
With C, work 1 row.
With D, work 4 rows.
With E, work 2 rows.
With D, work 6 rows.
With A, work 2 rows.
With B, work 6 rows.
With E, work 1 row.
With D, work 2 rows.
With C, work 1 row.
These 47 rows form Stripe Pat.

Notes:
First and last sc of each row is left unworked.
• Afghan is reversible. There is no RS or WS. Tuck ends in as you work every row.
• When joining new color, work to last 2 loops on hook of last st. Draw new color through 2 loops, then proceed in a new color.

INSTRUCTIONS:
With A, ch 239. Mark every 50th ch for easier counting.
1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *(Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 sc in next ch) 9 times. Ch 2. (1 sc in next ch. Ch 1. Miss next ch) 9 times. 1 sc in next ch.** Miss next 2 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * 4 times more, then from * to ** once more. Turn. 238 sts.
2nd row: Sl st to first ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. (Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp) 8 times. Ch 1. *(1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in next ch-2 sp. (Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp) 9 times.** Miss next 2 sc. (1 sc in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. Miss next sc) 9 times. Rep from * 4 times more, then from * to ** once more. Turn. First 2 rows of Stripe Pat are completed. Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last row until work from beg measures approx 53 ins [134.5 cm], ending with 6 rows of A. Fasten off.

Edging: Join D, with sl st to top left corner. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. Working along side edge of Afghan, proceed as follows: *Ch 1. Miss next sc row. 1 sc in side of next sc. Rep from * to last sc. Fasten off. Join D with sl st to first sc on other side of Afghan. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. *Ch 1. Miss next sc row. 1 sc in side of next sc. Rep from * to last sc. Fasten off.
