Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • Patons Canadiana (100 g/3.5 oz) or Patons Décor (100 g/3.5 oz) - 8 balls
  • Crochet hook: Size 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) or size needed to obtain tension.

Size: Approx 46 x 56 ins [117 x 142 cm]

Gauge/Tension: 16 sts and 7 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in pat.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Ch 211.

Foundation row: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in each ch to end of ch. Ch 4. Turn. 209 sts.
1st row: Miss first st. 1 tr in next st. *Work diamond as follows: Ch 4. Miss next 3 sts. 1 sc in next st. Ch 3. Turn . 5 dc in ch-4 sp. Ch 3. Turn. Miss first dc. 1 dc in each of next 4 dc. 1 dc in top of ch 3 (diamond completed). Miss next 3 sts. 1 tr in each of next 2 sts. Rep from * to end working last tr in top of turning ch. Ch 4. Turn.
2nd row: Miss first st. 1 tr in next tr. *Ch 3. 1 sc in top of ch 3 at point of next diamond of previous row. Ch 3. 1 tr in each of next 2 tr. Rep from * to end working last tr in top of turning ch. Ch 3. Turn.
3rd row: Miss first st. 1 dc in next tr. *3 dc in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in next sc. 3 dc in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 2 tr. Rep from * to end working last dc in top of turning ch. Ch 6. Turn.
4th row: Miss first 4 dc. *1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Ch 3. Miss next 3 dc. Rep from * to last st. 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3. Turn.
5th row: *3 dc in next ch-3 sp. Ch 3. Miss next 3 dc. Rep from * ending with 3 dc in ch-6 sp. 1 dc in 3rd ch of ch 6. Ch 6. Turn.
6th row: Miss first 4 dc. *3 dc in next ch-3 sp. Ch 3. Miss next 3 dc. Rep from * to last st. 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3. Turn.
7th row: *3 dc in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Rep from * ending with 3 dc in ch-6 sp. 1 dc in 3rd ch of ch 6. Ch 4. Turn. These 7 rows form pat.

*Cont in pat until work from beg measures approx 46 ins [117 cm] ending with a 3rd row of pat and omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.

Side Borders: Join yarn with sl st at one corner. Ch 3. Work 181 dc evenly along side edge. Ch 4. Turn. 182 sts. Work 1st to 3rd rows of pat omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.

*Work other side the same but do not fasten off.

Edging: Ch 1. Work 1 rnd of dc around outer edge of afghan working 3 dc in each corner. Sl st to first ch 1 join. Fasten off.

This is a good afghan to make now that it is getting colder. It is all in one piece and will keep you warm while you are crocheting it. The pattern looks easy to follow. The hardest part will be keeping track of that long beginning chain. I would do it in a solid color just like the photo to show off the detail. Thank you for the pattern.
