Cool Crochet Log Cabin Afghan

Give a rustic pattern a modern twist with this Cool Crochet Log Cabin Afghan. This crochet afghan pattern was inspired by a vintage design, but thanks to a cool color palette, this blanket looks trendy. Leave this super soft throw at the bottom of your guest bed for an extra layer of warmth. Size: 44" x 58”

Gauge: 15 sts (8 sc and 7 ch-1 spaces) = 4”; 14 rows = 4.” One square = 12½ x 13½”

 

Instructions:

Notes

1. Throw is worked in one piece beginning at lower corner. The throw is made up of 12 squares, arranged in 3 columns of 4 squares each.
2. Each square is worked and joined to the previous square(s) as-you-go.
3. Each square consists of 12 sections (“logs”) of color arranged in a log-cabin quilt-inspired manner. Refer to log diagram at end of pattern.
4. Work all squares using larger hook. Use smaller hook for final border round only.

 

First Square
Log 1
With E, ch 48.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn—24 sc and 23 ch-1 spaces.
Rows 2–5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn.
Fasten off.

Log 2
With right side facing, draw up a loop of C in first sc of last row of log 1.
Rows 1–5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn.
Fasten off.

Log 3
With right side facing, draw up a loop of A in 16th sc of last row of log 2.
Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn—9 sc and 8 ch-1 spaces.
Rows 2–17: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn.
Fasten off.

Log 4
With right side facing, draw up a loop of F in 13th sc of last row of log 2.
Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, [ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc] twice, slip st to Row 1 of log 3, turn—3 sc and 2 ch-1 spaces.

Fasten off.

With right side facing, draw up a loop of B in first sc at beginning of one side.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn.
Rows 2–4: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn. Fasten off. Repeat border across other side edge, but do not fasten off.
Change to smaller hook.

Final Border Round (RS): (Sc, ch 3, sc) in first sc (corner made), *(sc, ch 2, sc) in each sc across to next corner, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next corner; working across short edge, [skip end of next row, (sc, ch 2, sc) in end of next row] 5 times, (sc, ch 2, sc) in each sc across short edge to edge of side border (Note: If you are working across lower edge, work the (sc, ch 2, sc) in foundation chain at base of each sc), [(sc, ch 2, sc) in end of next row, skip end of next row] 3 times, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next corner; repeat from * once more omitting last (sc, ch 3, sc); join with slip st in first sc. I really wish these patterns could at least have a "printer friendly" if not a PDF download to them. ( It's a beautiful pattern though and I totally appreciate getting these FREE patterns!!! Thank you!

TroyT2014 There are actually two ways to send these patterns to your Printer. 1, In the row just above leaving comments you will see on the far right a little blue icon with a Capital P. Click on that icon, when it opens, scroll down to Printer and click. 2, Go up to your browser bar, at the top left you should see the file button, click on it and go down to Print. Click on it and you can print it to your printer. Hope that helps!
