What's a Cluster Stitch Anyway?
This crochet baby blanket uses cluster stitches throughout to get the wavy look of this pattern, but what even is a cluster stitch anyway? Well, for starters, a "cluster stitch" is an overarching term that defines a few stitches, all of which are similarly created by working multiple stitches into the same space, creating a clump, or cluster, of stitches: the popcorn, puff and bobble stitches.
These types of stitches are great for adding texture and visual interest to projects and are especially great for crochet baby blankets since they add the bumps and ridges that babies love to feel. Each of these stitches differs from the other by the way the individual stitch loops are finished off (or not finished off, as the case may be.
For puff stitches, many loops of yarn are held together by one final slip stitch whereas with the bobble stitch, each of the loops is partially finished and anchored to the chain space you're working into. Popcorn stitches are working very similarly to bobbles, but involve dropping a stitch for each popcorn you make.

this is one of my favorite go to patterns. I have noticed the waves don't show up as well with softer yarns. Have down many times in many sizes

This pattern of waves is very aesthetically pleasing! I wonder if there's a back story with it being labeled Irish. There are possibilities galore with so many colors of yarn from which to choose. I like the idea of a scarf made from this pattern and I think any baby would spend time mesmerized gazing at the colors and feeling all of this texture! Thanks for the free pattern!

A pattern that looks difficult but it is easy and looks very pretty and lacy. We can use whatever colours we like or make it in one solid colour if we so prefer. Lots of help is available for this pattern in the form of pictorial tutorials. I think I would like to make it with a finer yarn.

Hi there - to get to the full pattern, click the above link (Click here for pattern) to go to the designer's website. If you scroll a little, she includes a link to her site where you can download the PDF, and if you click that link, you'll be taken here (http://www.bizzycrochet.com/Free-Afghan-Patterns.html) where a link to the downloadable PDF pattern is included right under the photo of the Irish Wave Blanket. I hope that helps! Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns

This looks bulky for a baby blanket but could probably be useful in really cold days. Here's the link to the pattern http//bizzycrochet.blogspot.com/2014/05/new-free-i == rish-wave-baby-blanket.html. This could be done in one solid color or in a different color combos altogether.

I can't wait to make it and use my half scans that I have been saving. So many colors to make this beautiful stitch blanket. The pattern looks so easy and quick to whip up. Thank you for this free crochet baby blanket that I want to make for a double size bed..

Is there an instructional video showing how to do this stitch? I love this, it's gorgeous! It would be so much easier to figure it out while watching someone do it, and I'm also interested in making an adult sized afghan in this stitch and am terrible at math......are there instructions on how to make a larger version of this somewhere?? Thanks ever so much for your help!

Very strange, but when I clicked for the pattern, pictures and some text displays but not the pattern instructions themself. Where can I go to get them? I'm in love with this pattern!

This is very pretty. But there are no babies in my family to crochet for. So I'd like to know if there is an adult afghan/blanket pattern using this "wave stitch"? Thanks
