Cosmic Dorm Crochet Throw

The Cosmic Dorm Crochet Throw is a super snuggly crochet afghan pattern perfect for that college-bound teen in your life. Work it up just in time for graduation so she'll have something homemade to bring with her. This is an easy crochet afghan pattern worked up in fun Zaps yarn. Zaps is a solid colored yarn combined with a strand of a contrasting color. She'll not only love the color scheme and the crochet design, but she'll love bringing a piece of you with her.

GAUGE:

1 ripple = about 7 1/2 in. (19 cm), measured from peak to peak.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

  1. Throw is worked in a ripple crochet pattern. The ripple pattern is easy to do, but it's important to remember that you may need to work several rows before the ripple pattern becomes clear.
  2. The ripple pattern consists of alternating 3-st “peaks” and skipped st “valleys”. Take care to keep the peaks and valleys of each row aligned. 3 sts are worked into the center st of peaks, and sts are skipped over valleys.
  3. When working a crochet ripple, your piece may not lay flat until you've worked a few rows.
  4. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st. Fasten off old color. Proceed with new color.
