Athleisure Striped Throw

Perfect for sports fans, this Athleisure Striped Throw can be customized to feature your favorite team's colors. If you're not a sports fan, this free crochet throw pattern is just as customizable. The sensible but interesting stripe pattern is beautiful in any color combination, from neutral to vibrant shades.

This easy pattern uses only a couple special stitches including reverse single crochet and the v-stitch, both of which are fairly easy to learn. This is the kind of pattern that makes a great gift, especially for the sports fan who has it all.

Crochet HookJ/10 or 6 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge10 sts = 4" (10 cm); 7 rows = 4" (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Finished Size 46" x 60" (117 x 152.5 cm)

  • RED HEART® Classic™: 5 skeins 412 Silver C and 4 skeins each 3 Off White A and 1820 Dark Chambray B
  • Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]
  • Yarn needle

Instructions for THROW:

With A, ch 120.

  1. Row 1 (right side): V-st in 4th ch from hook (beginning ch count as first hdc and first skipped ch), *skip next ch, V-st in next ch; repeat from * across to last 2 ch, skip next ch, hdc in last ch, turn—2 hdc and 58 V-sts.
    Fasten off.
    Row 2: Join B with slip st in first hdc, ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), V-st in each V-st across, hdc in top of beginning ch, turn.
    Row 3: Ch 2, V-st in each V-st across, hdc in top of beginning ch, turn.
    Fasten off.
    Row 4: With A, repeat Row 2.
    Fasten off.
    Rows 5 and 6: Repeat Rows 2 and 3.
    Rows 7–18: Repeat last 3 rows 4 times.
    Row 19: With A, repeat Row 2.
    Fasten off.
    Row 20: With C, repeat Row 2.
    Rows 21–37: Repeat Row 3. Do not fasten off until last row is completed.
    Row 38: Repeat Row 2.
    Fasten off.
    Row 39: With A, repeat Row 2.
    Rows 40–50: Repeat Row 3. Do not fasten off until last row is completed.
    Row 51: With C, repeat Row 2.
    Rows 52-60: Repeat Row 3. Do not fasten off until last row is completed.
    Rows 61 and 62: With B, repeat Rows 2 and 3.
    Rows 63 and 64: With B, repeat Row 3 twice. Do not fasten off until last row is completed.
    Rows 65 and 66: With A, repeat Rows 2 and 3.
    Row 67: With C, repeat Row 2.
    Fasten off.
    Rows 68–82: Repeat last 3 rows 5 times.
    Rows 83 and 84: With A, repeat Rows 2 and 3.
    Row 85: Repeat Row 2.
    Rows 86–94: Repeat Row 3. Do not fasten off until last row is completed.
    Row 95: With A, repeat Row 2.
    Fasten off.
    Row 96: With C, repeat Row 2.
    Rows 97–111: Repeat Row 3. Do not fasten off until last row is completed.
    Row 112: Repeat Row 2.
    Fasten off.
    Rows 113 and 114: With A, repeat Rows 2 and 3.
    Row 115: Repeat Row 2.
    Fasten off.
    Rows 116-130: Repeat last 3 rows 5 times.
    Row 131: Ch 1, reverse sc in every hdc across.
    Fasten off.

    Bottom edging row: With right side of Row 1 facing and working in opposite side of foundation ch, join A with sc in last ch, reverse sc in each ch across.
    Fasten off.

    Finishing: Weave in ends.
     

Abbreviations

(SPECIAL) reverse sc (reverse single crochet)
Work single crochet in opposite direction from which you would usually work (left to right if you are righthanded and right to left if you are lefthanded). This stitch is also known as crab stitch. It creates a rope-like twisted single crochet edging.
(SPECIAL) V-st (V-stitch)
2 hdc in indicated space.
(SPECIAL TECHNIQUE) Join with sc
Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.
