Falling Snowflakes Afghan

Nine skeins of Red Heart Super Saver yarn and a size I crochet hook - that's all you need to create this cute and fun afghan! A crochet blanket is the best way to warm up during the cold winter months and makes a great gift.

No Name Crochet Afghan
 

Materials:

  • RED HEART “Super Saver”: 9 skeins 0316 Soft White.
  • Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9].
  • Yarn needle.

Instructions:

SQUARE (Make 48)-

  1. Rnd 1 (Right Side): Ch 4; dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, [2 dc, ch 3] 3 times all in same ch; join with a sl st to top of beg ch.
     
  2. Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc; (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) all in next ch- 3 sp – corner made; * dc in next 2 dc, corner in next ch-3 sp; rep from * around; join to top of ch-3.
     
  3. Rnd 3: Sl st in next 3 dc, ch 3, corner in next ch-3 sp, dc in next dc, work Cable over next 4 sts, * dc in next dc, corner in next ch-3 sp, dc in next dc, work Cable over next 4 sts; rep from * around; join.
     
  4. Rnd 4: Ch 4, * skip next dc, dc in next dc, corner in next ch-3 sp, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, fpdc around next 4 fptr **, dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * around, end at **; join to 3rd ch of ch-4.
     
  5. Rnd 5: Ch 4, * skip next st, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, corner in next ch-3 sp, dc in next dc, [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next dc] twice, work Cable over next 4 sts **, dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * around, end at **; join to 3rd ch of ch-4.
     
  6. Rnd 6: Ch 4, * dc in next dc, [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next dc] twice, corner in next ch-3 sp, dc in next dc, [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next dc] 3 times, fpdc around next 4 fptr **, dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * around, end at **; join to 3rd ch of ch-4.
     
  7. Rnd 7: Ch 4, * dc in next dc, [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next dc] 3 times, corner in next ch-3 sp, dc in next dc, [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next dc] 4 times, work Cable over next 4 sts **, dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * around, end at **; join to 3rd ch of ch-4. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew 8 squares together into 6 vertical strips, then sew strips together.

  1. Border-Rnd 1: With right side facing, join yarn in any corner ch-3 sp; ** ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) all in corner sp, * ch 1, sc in next dc, ch 1, skip next st, [sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st] 5 times, DEC, [ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st] 6 times, [ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch, ch 1, skip seam, sc in next ch, ch 1, skip next ch, [sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st] 6 times, DEC, [ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st] 6 times; rep from * to next corner; rep from ** around; ch 1; join with a sl st to first sc.
     
  2. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, ** (sc, ch 2, sc) all in corner ch- 2 sp, sc in next sc, * ch 1, sc in next sc; rep from * to next corner; rep from ** around; ch 1; join.
     
  3. Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 1, skip next sc, ** (sc, ch 2, sc) all in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, skip next sc, * sc in next sc, ch 1, skip next st; rep from * to next corner; rep from ** around; join.
     
  4. Rnd 4: Ch 1, sl st in next sp, ch 1, ** (sl st, ch 2, sl st) all in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, * sl st in next sp, ch 1; rep from * to next corner; rep from ** around; join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:

  1. Front Post Treble Crochet (fptr): [yo] twice, insert hook from front to back to front around post of st indicated, yo and draw yarn through, [yo and draw through 2 lps] 3 times.
     
  2. Cable (uses next 4 sts): Skip next 2 sts, fptr around next 2 sts; working in front of fptr just made, fptr around first skipped st, then around next skipped st. Skip 4 sts behind cable.
     
  3. Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): yo, insert hook from front to back to front around post of st indicated, yo and draw yarn through, [yo and draw through 2 lps] twice. Skip st behind fpdc.
     
  4. DEC: [Draw up a lp in next st] twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Notes:

  1. Afghan measures approximately 47” x 62”.
  2. GAUGE: Square = 7½”. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
